This Club was originally formed in 1981 where we were known as the "Unicorn Boys" Upon joining the "Lads League" we enjoyed limited success in a couple of age groups.
In 1992 Darren Gissing became Secretary and our club became the "life blood" in the area with players of all ages accepted, Unicorn quickly grew in size, however, despite the continued expansion major success on a regular basis eluded the club.
In 1999 the club decided to change it's name to the present title of Pickwick Youth. It was after the name change that we enjoyed various success in the Portsmouth Youth League & Cups. With the rapidly growing local area "mini-soccer" the club continued to grow at an unbelievable rate.
With success becoming increasingly frequent for a number of teams, the clubs profile has risen sharply in recent years & the decision was made to embrace the rising popularity of girls football by creating girls teams.
In 2005 Darren decided to step down as Secretary after 13 great years at the helm and after a number of "false dawns" Oz Prior became the new "Guru" with a number of club stalwarts splitting the workload by taking on various roles to help relieve the pressure of running a large club. The transformation has been apparent for all to see with the Club seemingly rising to a new level.
The 2005-6 season has seen the Club enjoy it's most successful campaign ever with five teams enjoying promotions/titles in their respective divisions, with the Under 12A's becoming the first side at the club to enjoy cup success winning the Portsmouth Cup.
The club has now become the 3rd largest club in the Portsmouth area boasting 25 teams for boys and girls of all abilities, from under 6s to under 18s.
2007 saw the next stage in the clubs development, with a lot of time and effort Our Chairman has steered us to accomplish “FA Chartered Standard”. Apart from a lot of paperwork one of the criteria of becoming Chartered Standard is that all our managers have at least a Level 1 FA Coaching Qualification, a fantastic achievement!.
